Happy Teacher Appreciation Week From Red Nose Day USA!
There’s no denying that this year has been stressful for teachers, with the stress of bouncing between virtual and in-school learning and constant worries about the pandemic.
But teachers’ resiliency during this long, difficult year brings us hope. They continue to teach against all odds, acting as a constant support in students’ lives. That’s worth celebrating!
Teachers should be celebrated every day, every week, and every year, but especially now during Teacher Appreciation Week. In honor of this special week, we're sharing the stories of some specially dedicated teachers who are bringing Red Nose Day into their classrooms and schools, and helping their students build empathy while positively impacting the lives of children around the world.
Let’s hear the stories of some amazing teachers, learning about what they’ve struggled with this year and how they’ve risen above it to keep students learning:
Meet Jill Takayama, a teacher in Walnut Elementary School, Walnut, CA. We asked her about the importance of community and what it means to her students and school.
Check out what Jason Cole, Principal of Northview Elementary School in Howards Grove, WI, has to say about the different ways his school has been bringing joy into the classrooms during the pandemic.
The last year has brought a transformation for teacher Tracy Kooy at Grant Elementary School in Santa Monica, CA. Here’s how she kept her students focused, motivated, and fulfilling their potential.
Principal Atiba Buckman from Speedway Academies in Newark, NJ thanks teachers and the entire education workforce for continuing to provide children with education and food during the pandemic, sharing that from witnessing this cooperative effort, she had learned “the heart of humanity.”
These educators, and so many more, are bringing Red Nose Day into their classrooms and schools, making a difference for their students while impacting the lives of children around the world.
Want to get involved? Is there a teacher, a coach, a principal that’s made a difference in your life? Why not donate to Red Nose Day in their honor? By supporting Red Nose Day, you'll be stepping up for children's education everywhere. Visit RedNoseDay.org today. And if you’re a teacher, we hope you'll join our Joke-Ha-Thon, a chance for you and your students to celebrate the end of the school year with laughter while helping children living in poverty who are disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.
To make things easier, we’ve created an all-in-one Toolkit with all the resources you might need to bring your Joke-Ha-Thon to life, including a joke-writing lesson from Scholastic, a list of funny, kid-approved jokes, virtual backgrounds, email copy, and more.
And that’s not all! Our free, remote-ready Red Nose Day in School lessons and routines provide a fun way to strengthen classroom community, help children build empathy, develop literacy skills, and learn about social issues. This flexible program isn’t just for Red Nose Day —it can be used year-round in the classroom or at the kitchen table!
